DIAMONDBACKS: Trade For Adam Dunn

August 13, 2008

Former Cincinnati Reds first basemen Adam Dunn was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for RHP Dallas Buck and two players to be named later.

BOTTOM LINE: It’s believed that one of the players to be named is Micah Owings, but he won’t be named until after the season is over. Dunn will provide power on a team that previously had Steven Drew and his 14 homers as its leading lefty power source.

WHITE SOX: Acquire Ken Griffey Jr.

July 31, 2008

Former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. has been traded to the White Sox, according to Fox Sports.

BOTTOM LINE: This could mean the end of Paul Konerko as the everyday first basemen in Chicago. Konerko will likely be relegated to bench duties, while Nick Swisher will become the everyday first basemen. Griffey would take over in center field, and Jermaine Dye and Carlos Quentin will occupy the corners. Give Griffey a shot if you need an outfielder.

REDS: Encarnacion Heating Up

July 22, 2008

Cincinatti Reds third basemen Edwin Encarnacion now has five homers over the last nine games, bringing his season total to 18.

BOTTOM LINE: The 39 RBI are disappointing, as are his lack of steals, but he’s walking more than ever and the power is starting to come on.

REDS: Bruce Doing Well

July 22, 2008

Cincinatti Reds outfielder Jay Bruce extended his hitting streak to 10 games on Monday night with an RBI double, but later struck out with the bases loaded to the end the game.

BOTTOM LINE: Bruce is doing well, but he still has holes in his swing, and is not very good at adjusting to curveballs. He may develop into a very good player, but he isn’t there yet.

REDS: Bruce Ends Slump

July 3, 2008

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce broke out of his recent slump in a big way Wednesday, homering twice and driving in four in a loss to the Pirates.

BOTTOM LINE: For those of you who stuck with him through thick and thin, this was a nice reward. Many others dropped him, but he is definitely a guy worthy of having a roster spot on your fantasy team.

REDS: Griffey Walks Off

July 1, 2008

Cincinatti Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. hit a two-run, walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday.

BOTTOM LINE: Griffey was given the game off, but appeared anyway. There don’t seem to be any injury concerns here, and Griffey should be in the lineup Tuesday.
